This pull request addresses #51.
It includes commits from both @heffjos and myself, aimed at making the CurrentVersionSHA file contained in .local more robust, even when working in a detached HEAD state. It also clarifies some working tree issues (non-issues, as it turns out). See discussion at #51 for more details.
Can I get a quick +1 from either @mangstad or @heffjos before I go ahead and merge this?
